Help
students grasp the concepts of alphabetizing and the use of
dictionary guidewords. Each page has a word bank with 10 words.
Students can click in the ‘between’ area on the workspace to
access a drop down menu of word choices. Words are NOT
eliminated once used, so the same drop down menu will appear
with each choice.
All pages have an example; teachers may choose the completed
example version or use the example with the class to ensure
understanding of the procedure. Each lesson consists of 10 sets
of guidewords with a space for students to insert the ‘between”
word from the word bank. The word sets are different for all 15
lessons. Use with student held devices, interactive white board,
or on paper.
Easy to save and print these Adobe .pdf files. Save your
information too!
Differentiation
-Set “A” - Easy uses mostly first letter to insert words
-Set “B” - Moderate requires first and second letters
-Set “C” - Advanced requires third letter or beyond.
Some
suggestions:
• Use one version for whole class instruction, using either
interactive whiteboard or paper version
• Assign an assortment on student held devices to limit
‘sharing’ of answers
• Use self-correcting for independent practice, then use
different version with no self-correct for assessment
• Allow small groups to work as a team to complete a page; teams
can share their answers and strategies with the rest of the
class
• Save your answers digitally.
• Lessons can also be used in a paper version.
• Using the digital versions on a device, students can
immediately tell if they are correct.
• For printout on Paper or use with iPad®, iPod®, Kindle®,
Chromebook®, Laptop, SMART® board or other devices.
If used on a device, students can enter their name and date and
either save the document and information in it or print out
their completed work. They select a word from the drop down menu
and are given instant feedback as the document reports the
number of correct answers automatically. There is also a
non-self-correcting version with this feature removed for
further differentiation in your classroom or for you to print.
The Digital versions are .pdf files and will work on a iPad®,
iPod®, Kindle®, Chromebook®, Laptop, SMART® board or other
devices.
